Introductions begin once about 100 desks can actually be paired, on a day we choose and announce by mail — a person opens the doors, not a counter. The first round goes to everybody it can pair; if it cannot find you a plausible correspondent yet, you stay in the room for the next one.
Until then you can claim a desk and set it up: a pen name, the facts, who you hope to meet, and your letter. Lists and a photograph can wait. Letters travel anywhere; where you live is the least of it.

What happens next
- Your key by mail, at once.
- Set up your desk: a pen name, the facts, who you hope to meet, your letter. About ten minutes. Lists and a photograph whenever you like, from your own page.
- When the doors open, a card lands on your desk and in your inbox if the round can pair you.
- You both say yes, a coin picks who writes first, and the letters begin.
After that, one mail when the doors open. Nothing else you have not asked for, and your address is never passed on.
